BOOK, FEATURE FILM, OR BOTH?

Which way for your cinematic screenplay adaptation?

With film-writer/producer Julian Phillips

Spend half-an-hour with career journalist, screenwriter and novelist Julian Phillips, for insights and technique when approaching the feature film-script adaptation for novels and books. Who reads so many books these days? But when a new book catches fire in the popular audience imagination ('Hunger Games', 'Fifty Shades of Gray', 'Harry Potter', 'Lord of the Rings'), or when a very popular author like Steven King or Tom Clancy is picked up for a film, the task of the feature film screenwriter is a finely nuanced labor with very specific goals and means for any writer. What do the new-media, digital-media, and online sources need in the same genre (adapted literature)? What about video-games? Online shorts and online series? Religious or spiritual? A book or novel is one thing: a full-length screenplay adaptation is another animal altogether. Find out what this produced film-writer and novelist teaches regarding 'how it's done', and 'how it's not', including a look at Julian's new novel about Mars, and his screenplay adaptation of the 1996 novel, 'Repercussion', by India J. Podson. Film credits on IMDb, or see www.kumaskitchenfreelancemedia.webs.com. Online eBooks available on screenwriting, story-theory, and film-history, low-cost or free, also MeekEarth Kid's Books for abused and neglected children.

Every War Has Two Losers

Every War Has Two Losers is based on the journals of William Stafford, a conscientious objector in World War Two and National Book Award winner.  Despite being

told that war is inevitable, Stafford disagreed.  He saw

war as a choice - a human choice - -and only one of the ways nations can respond to conflict.

Using Stafford's eloquent poetry and prose, the film invites the viewer to reflect on their own ideas regarding war and how individual  witness can contribute to a more peaceful world.
